What’s a voluntary market?

The voluntary market, while not controlled by governments, creates, certifies, and trades credits globally according to recognized scientific standards. Demand is not regulated by governments but is driven by companies and individuals who want to offset their carbon emissions voluntarily. There are nearly 200 different types of authorized carbon projects which deliver verified credits into public registries.  These credits are often used to enhance a company's corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives or to offset the carbon footprint of a specific product or service.
